The Original Zipline Company, Rooted in Hawaii.
Our mission is to provide a safe and exciting means for seeing and experiencing the natural wonder of the Hawaiian Islands. We're committed to the conservation and perpetuation of the islands’ unique land and culture so they retain their body and spirit for future generations.
It all started with a surf trip.
In 2001, fresh out of college, Danny Boren set off for Central America with a surfboard and a backpack. That fall, he traveled across Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua looking for undiscovered waves. Along the way, he found inspiration to turn a love for the outdoors into a business.
Danny came by his passion for the outdoors naturally. In 1968, Buck Boren, Danny’s dad, had gone on a similar journey, taking a job as a River Guide in the Grand Canyon. The next five years he spent on the Colorado River shaped who he was as a person, and instilled in him a lifelong love of adventure, one that he passed along to his son.

The next five years he spent on the Colorado River shaped who he was as a person, and instilled in him a lifelong love of adventure, one that he passed along to his son.
At the beginning of November 2001, Buck was visiting his son Danny in Costa Rica. The two were bound for an area called Malpais when Hurricane Michelle slammed into Central America. The washed out roads didn’t allow them to reach their destination, so they steered their car up into the mountains to a town called Monteverde.
In Monteverde, they found several companies offering rainforest canopy tours, ziplines that spanned from treetop to treetop. After their first thrilling experience zipping through the jungle, the father and son duo were hooked. Buck pitched the idea of opening a similar tour back on Maui where Danny was raised.
And so the idea for Skyline was born.
Just over a year later, at the start of December 2002, Skyline began operations on Maui’s historic Haleakalā Ranch, becoming the first commercial zipline operation in the United States.
In the years that followed, we opened the Ka’anapali Skyline Adventure in 2007, Maui’s second zipline operation. In 2009 we opened SkyZip at Dollywood, the first zipline tour in a major U.S Theme Park. In 2011 we opened our first franchise location, the Akaka Falls Skyline Adventure on the Big Island of Hawaii, and in 2013 we opened the Poipu Skyline Adventure on Kauai.
In 2018 Skyline became a concessionaire of Haleakalā National Park, expanding our operations into guided vehicle tours to the summit of the mountain where Skyline was born.
Over all those years, we have continuously worked to improve our operations, and to be a leader in this industry we helped create.

Above all, we have always remained true to our founding intent: to celebrate the natural wonder of the Hawaiian islands, and to work to conserve the islands’ unique land and culture for future generations.
A Culture as Rich as the Land.
At Skyline, we’re not just about eco-adventures. Sharing the history and stories of the Hawaiian culture is a key focus of our tours. Each tour and zipline guide is given extensive environmental and cultural training that includes Hawaiian language fundamentals, information on longstanding Hawaiian cultural traditions, and the history of the islands. Guests learn about the history of the islands from the reign of King Kamehameha, who ruled the Kingdom of Hawaii from 1795-1819, through its years as a republic and its annexation to the US in 1898, to the present day. We know Hawaii is a stunning place, not just for its beautiful views and lush landscapes, but because of the people who inhabit the land. The more our guests know about the culture, the more authentic their experience of the islands will be.
Your Safety Is Our Top Priority.
Our dedicated guides are what really set us apart. They’ve gone through 80 hours of training, including extensive CPR training – twice what the industry requires. In addition, they receive a 3-day immersion into Hawaiian history, culture, and native ecosystems to give you a fun, enriching, and meaningful experience (with a bunch of dad jokes thrown in for good measure).

At Skyline, we are conservationists at heart. Since 2002, we have planted over 20,000 native trees, hosted hundreds of community reforestation and ocean cleanup events, and given over $1.8 million to environmental and community nonprofits. We love Hawaii as much as you do, and we want to do everything we can to conserve this beautiful land for future generations.
20,000 Native Trees Planted
We’ve spent decades reforesting Maui, replacing non-native, invasive species with native trees, shrubs, vines and ferns.
100% Carbon Neutral
Since 2006, we've been a carbon-neutral company, working with carbonfund.org to reduce and offset our carbon footprint.
$1.8 Million Donated
As part of 1% for the Planet, we’ve given nearly $2M to environmental and community nonprofits groups.
Over 85,000 lbs of Food Donated
Kuleana is our responsibility to care for and protect the community and land we belong to, to work together to ensure everyone is cared for.
Kama‘aina: We’re All Family Here
Every year, Skyline Hawaii donates a day’s worth of zips to local charities serving Maui’s at-risk youth. We’ve donated over 85,000 pounds of food to local food banks. And because we believe service begins with each one of us, our staff accrues Paid Service Days, allowing them to volunteer in the community while being paid their full wage. It’s all a part of Kuleana, our responsibility to this beautiful land and its even more beautiful people.
