Vacations are a time to lay back and relax. Still, most of us don’t like to completely abandon our healthy habits of eating well and exercising. Many resorts and hotels have gyms available for use; but who wants to spend time exercising indoors while there are sandy beaches, tropical landscapes, and beautiful cultures and traditions to be explored! Luckily there are many activities that you can do on Maui to get your heart pumping while simultaneously enjoying all that the island has to offer. Here are 5 ways that you can stay in shape while on vacation in Maui:

1. Hiking

Hiking in Haleakala National Park

Maui is a wonderful place to hike. In fact, a number of beaches and waterfalls on the island are inaccessible by motor vehicle, meaning that hiking is one of the best ways to view some of the most spectacular sites on the island. There are trails available to accompany all skill levels and time availabilities. It is recommended to do a fair amount of research before choosing what hikes to go on, as some trails can be dangerous. Here are some popular Maui hiking trails and tips

If you are looking for a bit more excitement, a zipline tour is a great way to get a short hike in while also soaring through the sky at 45 miles per hour. The Haleakalā Sunrise N’ Zip Tour gives you the chance to view the sunrise at Haleakalā National Park and then follow-up with a zipline tour experience.

2. Beach Yoga

Try Beach Yoga in Hawaii

You are most certainly going to spend at least some time on the beach during your trip, so why not take a yoga class while you are there! Maui Beach Yoga offers group, private, and evening yoga sessions. There is also a class offered on top of the Haleakalā crater if you are looking for a truly unique and spiritual yoga experience.

3. Take an Adventure Tour

Biking on Maui

Biking is a fun activity within itself but adding in riding down Haleakalā crater after viewing one of the most beautiful sunrises in the world makes it even better. The bike route goes down multiple switchbacks for about 7 miles.

4. Surfing or Stand Up Paddle Boards

Surfing in Hawaii

If you are more inclined to stay constantly refreshed in the water, surfing or stand up paddle boarding may be exactly what you are looking for! Rentals and lessons are widely available throughout the island. Schools such as Rivers To the Sea include both group and private lessons if you are interested in more personal attention.

They even offer semi-private tours for two people; perfect for a romantic surf date experience. There are even professional photographers available to capture all the fun!Maui Stand Up Paddle Boarding offers rentals as well and paddle tours if you want insider knowledge on where to find the best view or coral and marine life. Lessons are also offered for those who are nervous going into the water on the paddle board for the first time.

5. Experience Polynesian culture while staying in shape!

Try zumba style dance in Hawaii

PolyFit is a Zumba-esqe class that mixes traditional Polynesian dance with modern moves. It is a fun and unique way to experience a bit of Hawaiian culture while also learning a few new dance moves. If you want a good workout but would rather avoid dancing, taking a Kiakahi Maui class may be more up your alley. Kiakahi is probably the most intensive workout mentioned on this list and can be described as a Polynesian infused crossfit class. The class takes cues from traditional dance and movements and focuses on a holistic approach to exercise.
