The Ultimate Zipline Guide For Beginners: What To Expect on Your Tour

When you think about ziplining you probably think of flying over incredible landscapes, taking in impossible views, defying gravity, or finding that indescribable thrill. But there is so much more to an out-of-this-world zipline tour experience than, dare we say it, the actual ziplines.
When you go on a zipline adventure tour you’ll be spending a considerable portion of the tour doing things other than ziplining. The real experience comes from the people you enjoy the adventure with and the guides who take you every step of the way. When you are exploring with an experienced team of friendly, expert guides, the positive energy is contagious and adds to the adrenaline of flying through the air.
Feeling a little nervous? The guides and your group will be cheering you on, facing fears together and crossing lifetime goals off of your bucket lists. Here’s what you can expect on your first zipline tour with Skyline.
Step 1: Meet your Guide
It goes without saying that if you are paired with an amazing, experienced guide the tour experience will be outstanding. That’s why we have spent so much time vetting and training the most outstanding guides in the business — and our guests have noticed time and time again!
We have over 3,000 reviews on TripAdvisor that rave about how incredible our guides are and we are so proud of that fact! Most of the reviews even mention our incredible guides by name.
At each Skyline Eco-Adventures location, guests are treated to great experiences with Hawaii’s best guide team. We have been named one of Hawaii’s Best Places to Work for seven years running. Our guides love working here and it shows because they effortlessly make each guest’s experience with us unforgettable. They take great care of each guest and keep everyone laughing throughout the adventure.
There is a very good reason why we were voted the #1 Zipline Company in Hawaii and the #1 land activity tour company in Hawaii.
Our guides complete a minimum of 80 hours of training which includes first aid, CPR & AED certification from the American Red Cross. As part of this training, we make sure our company’s values are ingrained in every step of the process- every time we hire a new team member we offer a paid service day to our entire team to participate in. We travel around the islands and conduct beach cleanups, reef cleanups, and more.
After the intense training process is complete and the guides know all of the ins and outs of ziplining, they start shadowing current guides. Every guide must complete at least four shadow days where they help guide tours for our guests. Then, after the four shadowing days are complete, they are assigned a Senior Guide partner. The guides in training must complete 15 days of assistant guiding before becoming a Senior Guide themselves.
Step 2: Gear Up
We have set the industry standard in zipline safety, with over 3 million zipline crossings! We invite people of all ages and experience levels to join us on our adventures.
Remember our vigorous 80-hour training process mentioned earlier? That is double the amount of time that the industry standard requires for training– only a short 40-hour training course.
Our guides thoroughly inspect every single zipline, trail, platform, and piece of equipment for every course every day. In addition to these thorough daily inspections, we bring an accredited ACCT inspector to each course to conduct a comprehensive review of all of our lines, equipment, courses, and current practices.
Step 3: Have Fun!
We have the best jobs ever! We get to meet incredible people from all over the world, tell stories, make jokes and smile all day long. People who zip with us can tell that we love our jobs and they have so much fun spending time with us!
Watching and helping a nervous, excited guest enjoy their very first zipline experience is just one of the perks of the job.
We invite first timers to come check it out for yourself! We have two scenic zipline locations available to serve you: Kaanapali and Haleakala.
(Secret Step 4: Give Back!)
Our company is built on the pillars of Do Good. Have Fun. with a focus on conservation, community, and culture.
In addition to the paid service day we take part in every time we hire a new team member, we also offer paid service days that people can take to contribute to causes that are near and dear to them, for example, cleaning up in Lahaina after the natural disasters that recently happened there. We also organize company-wide paid service days that happen every quarter.
We learn a lot about our fragile island and the flora and fauna that call this place home through these service days. Then, we are able to share that valuable knowledge with our guests so they can choose to help preserve our islands as well. Our guides are trained to work with groups of all sizes, ages, and levels of experience. We make sure everyone feels safe and has an unforgettable time. Come and see why Hawaii Magazine Readers voted Skyline Eco-Adventures as “Hawaii’s Best Land Activity Company.” We are thrilled to welcome guests on any of our adventures located on Maui or Kauai.
