- Free of chronic heart problems
- Not pregnant – unfortunately, it’s unsafe to zip while pregnant
- You should not have had recent surgery, especially on ankles, knees, or back. If you have serious neck, back, or joint injuries, you should also check with your doctor.
- The inherent risks of walking on unimproved hiking trails and joint impacts associated with zipline landings should be considered before going on a zipline tour.
Know Before You Go
- CLOTHING: Cozy jackets will be provided when you arrive at Skyline. We recommend you dress in warm layers and wear pants, a jacket or sweatshirt, socks, and closed-toe shoes so you are warm enough while viewing the sunrise. Temperatures at the summit of Haleakalā are routinely in the 30s and 40s.
- CAMERA/CELLPHONE CAMERA: You will definitely want to capture the beauty of the sunrise on the top of Haleakalā, so bring your camera!
- WHAT ELSE TO BRING: A reusable water bottle and sunglasses.
- INTERPRETIVE APP: Download Skyline Hawaii’s Haleakalā National Park Interpretive App from the App Store or Google Play Store. It’s available in nine languages (Hawaiian, Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and English) and has great info to augment what you’ll hear from your tour guide!
- WEATHER & REFUNDS: Weather at the summit can vary widely, and inclement weather can impact or limit sunrise views. Every sunrise atop Haleakalā is a unique, one of a kind experience. Some mornings are clear, while some are clouded in. Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds based on inclement, cloudy, or rainy conditions at the summit as they are outside of Skyline Hawaii’s control. But, we hope any visit to Haleakalā National Park and the summit of this legendary volcano are experiences guests will remember and revere as generations have before – even under adverse weather conditions.
- CAR SEAT REGULATIONS: Hawaii’s Child Passenger Restraint Law requires children under 4 years of age to ride in a child safety seat. Please note that guests will be required to provide child seats that meet State requirements. Click here to view Hawaii’s car seat laws.
- ADA: The tour is ADA accessible and the walk to the summit from the parking lot is short. However, if you’re interested in viewing the sunrise from an even higher point, there is a small hike up some stairs and over rocks.
- SHOES: For your safety, we ask that you wear shoes with a fully-enclosed toe and heel, like an athletic or hiking shoe. Shoes must be snug. No water shoes. No Teva or Keen-type sandals with open sections or 5-finger shoes.
- GLASSES: Glasses and sunglasses may be worn – just be sure to bring your strap.
- DITCH THE PACK: You can bring your backpack, but we’ll lock it up for you while you zip.
- PROTECT YOUR SKIN: Bring your reef-safe sunscreen. We also recommend wearing clothes that help block the sun.

See Maui From a Whole New Perspective.
Is the zipline inside Haleakala National Park?
No, Skyline’s Haleakala zipline course is located a few miles outside of Haleakala National Park.
Are your ziplines family-friendly?
Both of our zip line tours are high-flying adventures that kids and the kid-at-heart will love. For safety reasons we do have age and weight requirements. Our Haleakala Zipline Tours get rave reviews from many parents since it is one of the only family-friendly zipline courses on the island that accommodates smaller children. Haleakala Tours are safe for kids ages 8 and up and weigh at least 60 lbs. Kaanapali Tours are perfect for kids 10 and over who weigh at least 80 lbs. For more information about weight minimums and maximums check out our blog: Why there are weight requirements for ziplining.
What happens if it rains?
Tours operate rain or shine. If we do cancel, we’ll make every effort to contact you in advance to reschedule or refund the tour.
Is ziplining safe?
At Skyline? Absolutely. We’ve overseen over 3 million crossings—more than any other zipline company in the U.S. All our equipment is tested regularly, and our guides receive twice the amount of training required by the industry.
How long are the zipline tours?
Our Haleakala 5-Line Adventure Tour is our shortest tour at about 2 hours. The Kaanapali 8-Line Adventure Tour typically takes about 2.5-3.5 hours, depending on group size. Lastly, if you’re looking to plan an entire day of outdoor fun we highly recommend our popular Haleakala Sunrise & Zip Adventure Tour. This tour, which is about 12 hours long, starts with experiencing the legendary sunrise at the top of Haleakala and ends at our 5-line zipline course.
Will I have cell phone service on my tour?
Most tours get cell phone service, but don’t count on it. If you’re doing a sunrise tour at the summit of Haleakalā, your cell service will be spotty at best.
