Zip For The Trees

Community Event and Fundraiser

We hosted our sixth-annual “Zip for the Trees” community event and fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 12th, 2016, on Skyline Haleakala.

The 6th annual event was in support of several Maui charities along with native tree reforestation on Skyline’s Haleakala, Maui zipline course located on Haleakala Ranch lands.  Funds were raised by selling zipline tours that had guests zipping through towering eucalyptus trees on three exhilarating ziplines including Maui’s only pendulum zipline reaching speeds of more than 45 miles per hour. Over 400 people were in attendance and all proceeds from the event benefited five local charities: The Children’s Justice Center, the Hui Malama Learning Center, Maui Youth and Family Services, the Pacific Cancer Foundation and Pūnana Leo o Maui.  Over $6000 was raised from the event in support of the five charities.

Event participants zip lined and planted native trees while enjoying live music on Skyline’s Haleakala sound stage from Paula Fuga, Kaena & Kalapana and the Maui band Malino.  Attendees also enjoyed free pony rides from Maui Ponies and face painting for the Keiki, Shave Ice from Hana Ho Shave ice, pizza from the Outrigger Pizza Company along with culinary delights from Mo’Ono Hawaii and Tacos Maui 8 Wonder.  This year’s event also showcased Skyline’s community environmental partners including the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust, Maui Cultural Lands, Maui Invasive Species, The Nature Conservancy and Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project.  Skyline employees and volunteers planted over 350 native trees including ʻAʻaliʻi. Ohi'a and Koa along with removing invasive species in a large-scale effort to restore the native Hawaii forest land.

Sponsors of the 2016 event included Haleakalā Ranch, Native Nursery, Plant-a-Wish, Kihei Compost, Flat Bread Company and Maui Ponies.  Enjoy the video and photos from the 2016 event.
